About me
I was born in Cheshire, then lived in London. My
first degree was an English degree from Durham
university. I have lived in the South West since
1991.
I have two grown up children and I am interested
in many different aspects of physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual health. I have worked as a
project manager with a mental health charity, as a
care assistant and, for over twenty years, as a
teacher in secondary schools.
Credentials
I am an ACPP (Association of Core Process
Psychotherapists) committee member, and I am
registered with Aviva Health UK as an approved
provider. I have worked as a psychotherapist in a
voluntary setting as well as in private practice.
As part of my professional development I have
become an SEP, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
Somatic Experiencing is based on the work of Peter
Levine, author of Waking the Tiger.
The aim of this approach is to re-awaken
self-regulation of the nervous system. This work
overlaps with Core Process psychotherapy: more
recent trauma may be helped by a more specifically
SE approach; at other times SE becomes a technique
within the psychotherapy.
The Core Process psychotherapy training already
taught me a great deal about how trauma is held and
can be healed in the body. I did the additional
training in order to further develop these skills
and I was part of the first cohort to be trained in
Somatic Experiencing in the UK.
Supervision
I have regular supervision for my work as a
psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing
practitioner and I abide by the ethics of the Karuna
Institute.
